Program Overview

MSc Medical Anatomy, whose full form is Master of Science in Medical Anatomy, is a specialised postgraduate programme that focuses on the in-depth study of the structure of the human body at gross, microscopic, and developmental levels. It is closely related to the academic field of Human Anatomy, where students gain advanced knowledge about organs, tissues, cells, and their interrelationships within the body.

This programme not only builds a strong theoretical foundation but also emphasises practical exposure through dissection, histology, embryology, and modern imaging techniques, helping learners understand how anatomical structures support normal body functions and how changes in structure can lead to diseases. It plays a vital role in supporting areas like Pathology and Physiology, making it highly valuable for those interested in teaching, medical research, or healthcare-related fields.

Year-by-Year Syllabus

Year 1: Foundation of Gross Anatomy & Microscopic Structures

In-depth study of general and systemic anatomy, microscopic structure of tissues and organs (Histology), developmental stages of the human body (Embryology), and basic cellular biology. Extensive laboratory time is dedicated to microscopic examination and basic dissection techniques.

Year 2: Advanced Dissection, Histology Prep & Pathophysiology

Advanced human body cadaveric dissection, clinical anatomy variations, neuroanatomy, histological preparations (fixing, sectioning, staining), and integration with pathology and physiology. Students begin preliminary research formulation.

Year 3: Advanced Clinical Imaging, Thesis & Teaching Assistance

Conducting original scientific research, writing a comprehensive thesis/dissertation, undertaking teaching internships as anatomical instructors for undergraduate courses, and gaining exposure to advanced clinical imaging techniques.
